Tiger Conservation: Project Goals and How You Can Help
Our approach to the complicated task of tiger conservation is relatively straightforward. We raise money for the immediate needs of the wild tigers in India. We volunteer our time and energy (there are no salary overheads) so that all the money you donate goes directly to the tiger. With the advise from long time members of the tiger conservation community in India, resources are sent directly on-site in India where every dollar goes far in terms of purchasing power and ultimately in terms of tiger protection.

Tiger conservation needs resources for (broadly):
  • Protection of the parks (habitat) and animals in it by Forest guards
  • Community projects that support the villages around the parks
  • Scientific study to understand the needs of the tigers
  • Lobbying for and enforcing legislation within the country
  • Control in international trade of tiger parts
The most immediate need is protection of the parks and so we try to support the 'men in the trenches'--the Forest Guards--who despite government spending, just don't have enough to do their work, let alone being well compensated for their work.

Here's how your money could be well spent:
  • $100 Woolen sweaters for 10 forest guards
  • $100 A pair of binoculars
  • $250 Annual Award for one forest guard
  • $500 One wireless radio set for guards for communications
  • $800 One motorcycle for patrolling the park
  • $1000 Boots/shoes for 25 forest guards
  • $7500 One jeep for patrolling the park
How You Can Help
There are several ways you can help the tiger survive into the next millenium. The most important is probably donations or donations-in-kind. Keep in mind that every dollar (or a pound or a Euro...) you donate stretches very far in terms of on-site purchase power. Money donated by you will go for various time critical conservation projects straight on-site. Your donations are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. If you are interested in finding out about volunteering opportunities in terms of your time and ideas, please contact us.
